Indian hurdler Jyothi Yarraji, who is 24 years old, is the fastest. She holds the national record for women’s 100-meter hurdles, which is 13.23 seconds. Jyothi has won competitions both domestically and internationally. On multiple occasions, she has consistently surpassed the record. Jyothi Yarraji proudly represented India at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in the 100-meter hurdles and helped the Indian Women’s 4 X 100-meter relay team finish fifth in the finals. She won gold medals in both the 100-meter and 100-meter hurdles events at the 2022 India National Games.
Jyothi Yarraji Biography
Jyothi Yarraji was born on August 28, 1999, in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. Jyothi Yarraji, like many Indian athletes, was born into a poor family. Kumari, her mother, works at a large hospital as a part-time cleaner. Her father, Suryanarayana, works as a private security guard. Each month, they earned less than Rs 18,000 in total. When Jyothi Yarraji won the gold medal at the Asian Athletics Championships in Bangkok, Thailand, she made India proud. The 23-year-old, who rose to prominence through hard work on her game, comes from a humble background. She currently holds all records and is the fastest women’s hurdler in India.

Professional Life
Jyothi Yarraji gained notoriety in 2015 when she won the gold medal at an inter-district competition in Andhra Pradesh. She then relocated to the SAI Centre in Hyderabad to work out with Olympian and Dronacharya Award winner N Ramesh. Jyothi Yarraji moved to the Bhubaneswar-based Odisha athletics high-performance facility in 2019 and met British coach James Hillier there.
She won gold at the All-India Inter-University Athletics Meet in Karnataka in January 2020 by running 13.03 seconds, breaking a national record. Tragically, this couldn’t be authoritatively recorded since the Public Enemy of Doping Organization (Nothing) didn’t test her before the opposition, and there was no specialized delegate from the Games League of India (AFI) present. With a time of 13.09 seconds, she set a new national record at the Federation Cup in Kozhikode. However, it was rejected because it was a wind-aided run. Later, she won the gold medal at the Khelo India University Games.
She came back strong and made her international debut on May 10, 2022, at the Cyprus International Athletics event in Limassol. She was devastated, but she was still motivated. With a time of 13.23 seconds, Jyothi Yarraji eventually beat Anuradha Biswal’s 2002 record of 13.38 seconds in the women’s 100-meter hurdles.
Jyothi’s Triumphs at Mega Events
She won the gold medal at the Loughborough International in the United Kingdom in May with a time of 13.11 seconds. She won the gold medal at the Harry Schulting Games in the Netherlands four days later with a time of 13.04 seconds. She finished in seventh place in the 100-meter hurdles final of the national inter-state senior athletics championship that took place in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, in June 2022. Jyothi won bronze in the 100-meter hurdles competition in Bedford, Great Britain, in July 2022 at the England Athletics Championships. She won silver medals in the 100-meter run and the 4×100-meter relay in August 2022 at the All-India Inter-Railway Athletics Championship in Raebareli, Uttar Pradesh. At the 36th National Games, which were held in Gujarat in October 2022, she won gold in both the 100-meter race and the 100-meter hurdles competition.

When Jyothi won a gold medal at the Andhra Pradesh inter-district meet, she caught the world’s attention. When she was 15 years old, She moved to the SAI Centre in Hyderabad in 2016 and began training under Olympian and Dronacharya Awardee N Ramesh. Over the next few years, Jyothi continued to win medals at various national meets, making her a work in progress. When Jyothi joined the Odisha Reliance Athletics High-Performance Centre in Bhubaneswar in 2019, she received guidance from British coach James Hiller. Her performance improved as a result. Jyothi broke the national 100-meter hurdles record with a time of 13.03 seconds at the All India Inter-University athletics meet in Moodabidri, Karnataka. She had not been tested by the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) prior to the race, so that record was not recorded.
